Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) is the control protocol as part of the wider HDMI standard. It's what allows a connected device outputting video to automatically grab the attention of the display and change source. You also probably use it to control the volume and navigate all from one remote. It's carried over pin 13 of the HDMI connector.
